Common Man Coffee Roasters @ TTDI

Good day everyone!

The brunch scene is mushrooming everywhere in shops or even in pop ups!
Which is even better for us foodies which means more places to go and more places to put into my wish list!

Well the amount of work I put into eating but its pure enjoyment with well made food and great company..

Enough talk about it! Let's get to the introduction of the latest pop up of brunch place in TTDI which is known as the Common Man Coffee Roasters..
This place I have only heard about it via their Instagram and they hail from the land of the chili crab..

Well I'm quite surprised with the current influx of many Singaporean establishment to set up a mini post in KL.. Whatever it is, means I have better coffee to drink!

Initially it was open for coffee but after gotten the news that they are having a facial refurbishment to expand their facility; eventually I didn't plan to go there to give it time to straighten out their kinks before you can properly evaluate a place..

After given it sufficient time for it to blossom into what it is today and not to mention an additional stomach to follow along this crazy food adventure, we gotten the time and courage to try out this new coffee place!

Overtly excited for it as I have already seen great pictures of their food on instagram and heard fantastic whispers of their coffee too! Well pictures do tell a thousand words but in this instance it expresses a thousand grumbling waves of hunger for you to just devour them!

The atmosphere of this restaurant/cafe is really spacious with very comfortable seating that can just cater from a single diner up to a group of 6-10 person! Talk about careful planning of their layout which can make everyone happy.. Not to forget that their whole cafe design is really instagram approved and worthy for a beautiful shot..

The most eye catching part of the restaurant/cafe is their bar which is just located in the center of it all the people and its actually the first that you would notice upon your arrival into the entrance of this place!

The menu of this cafe is really straightforward yet simple but the simplicity of the menu with carefully crafted and expressed dishes made it a huge challenge for us to even comprehend yet alone decide which to go for..

Thank god for the dining partner that I have with me on that day with it's awesome appetite, we can just brave the storms and went in for the kill to order not 2 dishes but 5 dishes in total and also their coffee..

I know this sounds really crazy but it's a pure delight in the sight to behold of having a dining partner which can just stomach all this 5 dishes with such grace and finesse!

Less talk about my dining partner and let's move to our brunch feast!

The first thing that caught my eye on the menu and even on their instagram page is this gorgeous yet colourfuly  plated dessert is their pancakes with raspberry, caramel and hazelnut sauce and that was what we ordered upon scanning the menu!

This plate of pancakes is really generous and the size and thickness of the pancakes may overwhelm those with a rather small appetite as it is really that huge and not an average petite size of the pancakes that you would usually spot in a cafe..

The people in the kitchen of Common Man Coffee means business when they craft those fantastic brunch ideas.. The moment we all have been waiting for!

To eat!

The first bite of this pancake and all I could say is that the texture of this pancake is amazingly fluffy as if you're eating a plate of cloud as it was spongy and springy! The raspberry and caramel sauce alongside the crunchy nuts really gave me a different perception of pancakes because this pancake is really well thought after with its flavour combination, texture and presentation that able to give it a feast for the senses!

Croque Madame is the 2nd brunch dish we ordered and it was a speedy arrival too!
As the dish is consists of croissant with an omelette which is really fluffy and good as it is..
A perfect option for a light fluffy croissant which is sandwiched with an omelette

The 3rd brunch dish that arrived to our table was the  Goat Cheese salad and sauteed mushrooms with balsamic vinegar.. This dish is really interesting as you can get your greens and your naughty fried goat cheese treats in one plate!
All the textures really comes together swimmingly with the lightly fried goat cheese that still has a sticky and soft centre yet you have the sauteed mushrooms and it all ties together with a sweet balsamic reduction..

The only fried side that we ordered from their menu was the Sweet potato fries with a Bearnaise sauce which actually isn't really that impressive and memorable as the flavour aspect of it is really plain and simple and not much excitement or seasoning..

In their latest change of their menu, we have came across and tasted something new which really caught our eyes and satisfied our bellies! From the latest menu we ordered a few new dishes from the menu which they had carefully thought and insert some playfulness into this dishes!

The first dish we had was the Organic Egg Benedict..
I know it seems rather boring and plain that the eggs benedict is a norm and the most popular brunch dish but this rendition of their eggs benedict is truly amazing and not anywhere near plain nor boring..

Let me break it down to you all about their benedict! The building blocks of the Benedict is their beautifully yet tenderly braised ox cheeks and it was then placed above two fantastically poached organic eggs which are well dressed with chive hollandaise and it is then being surrounded with house greens which are the arugula and sourdough bread..

It was amazingly plated with great precision and care for the eyes of the camera and also for our eyes and mouth to water! Next was that we did a little test to see how well their poached eggs are being that the true answer lies in the runny texture of the yolk which many had failed once the eggs are cooled down..
With great pleasure to report that the wizards of the Common Man is amazing being that the yolk is still runny despite it was rather cold but the walls of the yolk was still warm when we had a taste of it!  Let's not forget their tender ox cheeks which is just melts in your mouth!

The 2nd new brunch dish from the latest menu was their Sauteed Kale & Egg White Scramble..
This a really interesting dish which the wizards of CMCR created and it is actually one of the dishes that caught our eyes to order! This is the only vegetarian dishes in their brunch menu but in other sections there are other vegetarian dishes to try..

But for this adventure, we just decided to try this dish and it was the best decision ever that we made! This dish consist of asparagus, sweet pea and broccoli which is topped off with a generous rain of shaved parmesan & lemon zest crumbs..
This dish actually has the option of adding either chicken or prawns

So it is a layered of greens that was stacked carefully with different textures to expect and taste which is a great plate of food for someone that loves greens! Well we had it without any additions to the plate and we are in an exciting treat for the senses with the greens being cooked to perfection and the white scramble egg is like the fluffy cloud that is really light and fluffy yet slightly salted yet zesty!

The 1st sweet brunch in the new menu and luckily their famous churros is still available to enjoy which is the Fluffy Brioche French Toast.. It was the only sweet brunch dish that attracts me to order other than the 2 savoury items..

Well it's not a bad thing to start with the desserts or anything that is sweet in your life..
After an intelectualy challenging day, we decided to end it with something sweet!

The moment it arrives to our table and it just look so pretty yet majestic and looks amazing when it was photographed.. This fluffy majestic is actually beautifully plated with  a berry compote glazed with a side of small jar of maple syrup and premium vanilla ice cream..

The brioche toast tasted so buttery yet fluffy which is true to its name and the berry compote helps to balance out the sweetness with a side of sourish elements of strawberry and blueberries and brought a slice of harmony of taste and texture in every mouthful with the butter and richness of the brioche with the sourish berries alongside the sweet and nutty goodness from the maple syrup and to cool it off is with some vanilla ice cream on top of it!

The finale for our epic brunch would be their much anticipated and talked about Churros which is served with gula melaka caramel, walnut, chocolate sauce and a huge scoop of Vanilla ice cream..

The common man coffee interpretation of a churros is rather on the heavier and weighty side of churros which is a stark comparison from their spanish cousin of churros which is light and crunchy..
They are gracefully plated with finesse and the magical dusting of the powdered peanuts to grace for their exit from the kitchen and to our table for us to devour and enjoy!

Verdict:

The coffee here are excellent! Quite crowded but the food is worth it!

Excellent and friendly service
